Hi! I've obviously missed a couple of blog posts for trip reports, so I am combining these two weekend runs, along with a blurb on the parade!
On 3/8, we met up for breakfast, complete with some quick parking lot wrenching! We had 24 vehicles roll out to run China Wall with us. It was awesome, and although super muddy, everyone had a good time. The wall was extra challenging because of the mud, and most of us chose not to go all the way down to the river because we didn't want to tear up the trail. When we headed out, the mud was sure flying!
3/14 started out at Western Omelette where several of us had a nice breakfast. We then headed toward downtown to do a little pre-parade decorating. We had 8 rigs in the parade, and we all got lots of attention from the crowd. One bystander even yelled out "Thanks for being responsible!" It was pretty cool.
The evening of 3/14, the Mardens led Metbury Gulch. We met up at 5 and headed off into the mountains. It was beautiful, but the wind was pretty nippy. While on the first part of the trail, it was super muddy and there were a lot of standing puddles. There was also a lot of snow. Once we got all 21 vehicles down to the river, though, there was no snow and the wind died down, so it was nice to stand around and visit (at midnight) and look at the gorgeous sky full of stars. One vehicle had headlight issues, so a number of the guys tried to diagnose and fix the issue. Despite this, everyone got back up the hill fine. We got back to Colorado Springs around 2:30am, just in time for a couple of us to be caught up in DUI stops. Fortunately, law enforcement seemed to understand the words "disconnected sway bars" equals some minor weaving at that time of night, when it's windy and you're tired. ;-) And, since CFW members don't wheel and drink, it was all good!
We have more trips coming up for March, so hopefully we will see you on the trail!
