On Sunday, 4/19, some of our members headed up to Cedar Mountain Road to set up a rally point, as the poker run was planned for the three gulch trails, Hackett, Metberry, and Longwater. Fortunately, we had a couple of hardy members who were willing to bring their camper up to scout out the rally point the night before. And true to Colorado Springtime, we had a good 6-12 inches of fresh snow throughout the area.
Everyone else met up at Rudy's. We estimated that we had 28 vehicles head up after getting some breakfast and spending some time chatting. The road up to Teller County was good initially, but as it started to snow more, quickly became icy. Once we got into Divide, we hit fog that made the rest of the drive seem surreal.
We got everyone registered and headed out on the trails. The rest of us hung out at base camp and had the weather of all seasons- we had snow, sun, sleet, and even some rain from the snow melting in the trees above us. It was still awesome to sit around the campfire and visit while we waited for everyone to return from their respective trails.
Longwater and Metberry had great trail runs, with no issues. The people running Metberry found no snow and nice, warm weather down by the river. There was one vehicle that had mechanical issues on Hackett, so their trail took a bit longer. We still got everyone back safely though!
The raffle, sponsored by RnR Offroad, 4Wheel Parts, Predator 4 Wheel Drive, 3D Dimensions, Hi-Lift Jack, Colorado Four Wheelers, Mickey Thompson, and Trans America, was a success. We had several bigger prizes, such as light kits and a hi-lift jack, as well as numerous smaller prizes. The winning $100 poker hand was split by tied poker hands belonging to Amy Rullo and Robert Stoermer!
We appreciate everyone coming out! We hope everyone had a great time, and will come out to join us in the future!
